We are Julie and Mike

For 20 years we have searched for the place to call home in the mountains.
Chalet Louis, has a cosy and open planned living style (refurbished in 2016) with enough room for 9 people.
After recently purchasing this Chalet, we have made it feel homely and ensured it is well equipped to make a holiday to be remembered whether for winter ski fun or summer adventures.
We hope that you will want to return year after year to our home in the mountains. We always welcome and value any feedback that our guests give us.

The snow is falling, it will soon be skiing time. Check out the live view below directly from chatel.

WHY THIS CHALET?

There are many chalets available for you to choose from. It is sometimes difficult to choose the one that will make your holiday a thing for you and your family to remember. We beleive that this chalet perfect for young families that have stuggled to find the time to spend with their friends due to the pressures of family life. This chalet gives a modern, safe space for children and their parents to be together. Having put the children to bed in one of the 4 bedrooms, you can settle down in front of the fire and enjoy time to catch up and maybe a glass or two of wine from the well stocked nearby supermarket.

For the tenage family, the ability for them to come back from the slopes seperatley using the winter ski bus gives them the option to enjoy sking from first to last lift. For the real adrenalin junkies then why not try the flying foxzip line that spans the valley and runs both in the winter and summer months.

Chatel Village

Whatever you choose to do here, in Châtel you'll find everything the perfect village resort has to offer. A lively village centre, perfectly preserved mountain architecture, skiing in the vast unspoiled spaces of the Portes du Soleil, with little side routes here and there that you can follow on foot, on snowshoes or on skis. The countryside is as magnificent as the old chalets in the valley. Here, the atmosphere is a tempting mixture of a tranquil way of life, friendliness and fun!

La Chapelle de Abondance Village

Less than 1KM from Chalet Louis, this beutiful French village is quieter than Chatel and retains a classic French charm. In the summer, walk along the footpath by the river before enjoying lunch and maybe a beer. After lunch enjoy some of the shops and quaint village centre. In the winter get the Ski bus here (Or ski return to the nearby Panthiaz lift) and enjoy a few local beers brewed in the micro-brewery of the Fer Rouge (Aim for happy hour!).

Getting Here?

There are two main ways to get to the chalet, either flying or driving.

Driving

If you decide to drive down, we can suggest a route that avoids around 1/2 of the motorway. Having driven this route many times, it is just as quick as the motorway but a shorter distance avoiding some of the motorway tolls. There are many places that are suitable for a overnight stay with a drive time in France of around 8.5 to 9.5 hours.

Flying

There are flights from Heathrow to Geneva all year round and many other regional airports during the ski season. Other airports serving this region include Chambery and Lyon.

Either book a hire car at the airport or take one of the plentiful shuttle busses that will bring you up to the valley. Many of these will drop you at the door of the Chalet with prior arrangement.

Portes Du Soleil..

..the second largest ski region in the word.

Les Portes du Soleil (Literally "The Doors of the Sun" but translated as "The Gateway to the Sun") is a major skisports destination in the Alps, encompassing thirteen resorts between Mont Blanc in France and Lake Geneva in Switzerland.
As with many other Alpine ski resorts, the lower slopes of the Portes du Soleil have snow-making facilities to give guarenteed full season skiing by keeping the lower slopes open during the warmer months..
Châtel is a typical Savoyard village on the border with Switzerland. The village stretches from Lac de Vonnes (near the border) down to centre. There are 2 main ski areas in the village, Super Châtel is reached by cabincar or chaiflift from the centre of town and from here links by lift are made to the Swiss towns of Torgon and Morgins. The base station of the larger and more challenging Linga/Pre La Joux area is reached by shuttle bus. This area forms the link between Chatel and Avoriaz and while it is dominated by red and black slopes and tremendous offpiste it is possible to ski all the way to Avoriaz on easy blue slopes but where once you needed to negotiate some difficult red slopes to return a new blue run has been in place since 2011/12 season that gives an alternative return for those less confident on red runs. Above Pre la Joux lies the small mountain village of Plaine Dranse in which almost all the houses are turned into restaurants – about 15 in all with Chez Babette and Le Marmottes being the most high-end among them, both in height and price. There is also a small church built into the rock at Plaine Dranse. The resort of Chatel lies at 1200 m and the highest point of skiing is about 2200 m, but many of the lower slopes are north facing and do retain the snow throughout the season, ending normally in late April..
